Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise

Walter C. Smith wrote the words to the hymn Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise. Below is a picture depicting a few of the lines from his poem.

Immortal, Invisible

1 Timothy 6:15b and 16 — He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.

The Bible states that God alone has immortality. Jesus will give eternal life to His own at his second coming. (See 1 Corinthians 15:51-55 and 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) John 3:16 states that God so loved the world that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life. The alternative to being given everlasting life at Christ’s second coming is to perish. The Bible does not teach that immortal souls will live in eternal torment if they have rejected Christ’s generous offer of life.
